A well-known hymn encourages people to sing, ‘No more we doubt Thee, glorious Prince of life.’ It is a fine sentiment – no more doubts – and the message of Jesus Christ, crucified, risen and reigning, is a powerful antidote to doubt.

But what about the times when doubts and fears do arise? Few people could say that they never have any doubts about the reality or goodness of God, the trustworthiness of the Bible or the life to come, and one impressive feature of the Bible is that it includes the stories of people who struggled with such issues – that includes such people as Abraham, Elijah and John the Baptist, not to mention ‘Doubting Thomas’.

Since ‘All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness’ (2 Tim. 3:16), we can learn from their experiences and this book seeks to help readers deal with their own doubts or the doubts expressed to them.
